Goodbye, and Stay Sassy!

I started at Retrospect back in August of 2008.  I remember squealing into the phone when Jason offered me the position, "Oh my gosh! I can't wait to tell my parents!"  Dropping off my resume was my last ditch effort to avoid accepting a job in the suburbs as a "Junior Camp Nature Specialist", which is apparently a clever euphism for a khaki cargo short, Croc-wearing camp counselor who picks up after the animals in a makeshift "farm area" of the park.  That alone made me feel as though I struck gold.

It was easy to predict that my closet would have a constant overflow of beautiful dresses, from the basic staple silhouettes to the fabulously unneccesary pieces I just had to have.  I just never thought that a job would give me the opportunity to meet so many wonderful individuals.   I feel incredibly blessed to have spent the past four years here.  I know that not everyone has the pleasure of doing what they love, or saying that the highlight of their college graduation party was the moment their boss showed up.  I'm so lucky, and I just want to use this post to say thank you to all of my lovely co-workers and customers who have made my time here special.

XOXO,
Emily

Vintage Icon: Helen Gurley Brown

The Queen of Cosmo, Helen Gurley Brown, passed away yesterday at the age of 90. While interning at Hearst in the summer of 2007,  I had the great pleasure of seeing her step through the giant glass revolving doors in beautiful leopard stiletto heels.  She strode through the entrance with a modelesque man hooked on each of her tiny arms, both of them carrying an array of shopping bags from the boutique stores on Madison Avenue. Even at 85, she was nothing short of fabulous. Upon taking over as editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan in the sixties, she transformed the magazine into a revolutionary publication that made single women embrace their sexuality at a time when it was considered shameful. Rest in peace, Ms. Brown, you sassy lady, you!

Retrospect Featured on Local Reality Series, Boogie Nights

Retrospect has been the desination for every retro party's wardrobe since we first opened.  From 80's themed homecoming parties to swinging sixties birthday events, we've enjoyed making all of your retro-themed occasions fun and stylish with our vast selection of vintage clothing and accessories.  A few months ago, we had a Retrospect first with the great opportunity to help the crew of the new, local reality series, Boogie Nights, find both funky and fashionable looks that would reflect the party spirit of their 70's and 80's themed NJ nightclub.  Check out this episode to see us (at 22:04).  For more information on this NJ nightlife hot spot, visit boogienightsac.com.

Photos of Inspiration: Beautiful Hand-Painted Lettering

Check out our beautiful, new signage thanks to the talented hands of our fabulous buyer, Jenn Friberg!  This lovely lady researched fun and interesting fonts, then drew and painted over each letter freehand to give our window some extra sparkle.
