Holiday Plaid for Every Occasion

 Dinner and Drinks:
A green and blue plaid skirt worn as a mini dress gets you that short hemline
and serves as an update to something that may have been sitting in your closet for far too long. Cinched in with a belt and worn with a throw-on boyfriend sweater, it's perfect for a casual night out.
Skirt- $16
Sweater- $24
Belt- $13

 Weekend Shopping:
A mid-length pencil skirt goes well with almost anything,
and paired with a blouse tied saucily at the waist it looks casual but put together.
Shirt- $14
Skirt- $14

 Work Day-to-Night:
A long wool plaid skirt isn't for everyone, but sky high wedges can balance anything out.
Here, it's paired with a navy blazer for day,
while the lingerie inspired silk tank can be worn solo for happy hour drinks.
Blazer- $24
Blouse- $12
Skirt- $14

Family Dinner:
This red and green blouse has a lot of volume and a high ruffled collar,
but offset with a cinched waist and a short white brocade skirt,
it's "proper" without looking too stuffy.
Shirt- $16
Skirt- $14
Belt- $14

Head Wraps Five Ways

Scarves are a great way to keep your ears warm in the cold and add a nice pop of color to any outfit. The wrapping technique may change according to the size and shape of the scarf,
but here are five ways they can be tied.

Wrap back to front, knot, tuck ends ($6).

Position asymmetrically, wrap front to back, cross, and tie.
This works best with a long rectangular scarf ($5).

Wrap back to front, cross, tie in back ($5).

Wrap back to front, twist, tie in back ($4).

Wrap back to front, tie.
Works best with small square scarves ($4).

Dresses to Catch Your Fancy

'Tis the season for holiday parties, and whether you're attending a work function, family dinner, or black tie affair, this is the perfect excuse to treat yourself to a new frock. We have dresses for any occasion in a variety of cuts, colors, and fine fabrics.

On the left, a satin brocade mini dress in bright lipstick red is eyecatching to start, plus the attached brooch and keyhole cutout add some extra oomph ($24) .On the right, in a flattering berry red, is a satin dress with a ladylike hemline, draped bodice, and bows at the shoulders ($38).
At the left is a gorgeous floor length emerald gown, with a full skirt supported by layers of tulle. The boned strapless bodice has lovely bows, and best of all, it has pockets ($38). At right, a black velvet dress gets sparkly with green sequins on a black embroidered appliqued bodice ($32).

Here are two black strapless dresses, each with a very different spin. On the left, a modest tea length hem and a sophisticated lace overlay keep it classy ($24). On the right, a short number with lace sequin bodice and satin skirt keeps it sassy. It does have a large sequin rosette at the waist which I would recommend removing as soon as possible ($28).

On the left is a LBD that could definitely be put in year-round rotation. The full skirt adds curves to the straightest figure, and a row of matching satin buttons up the spine adds back detail ($28). On the right is a deep forest green dress in sumptous velvet, with ruching throughout the bodice down to a dropped waist and asymmetrical full skirt ($28).

Warmer Wears

Decreasing temperatures and increasing wind speeds often cause us to retreat within the bulkiest, most frumpy clothes we own for months at a time. Jeans and flannels may have their place, but there's no reason to make them your winter uniform. Below are three options we have in store to cut down on bulky layers while still keeping warm and refusing to sacrifice on style. Throw on a second pair of tights or some thigh high socks with a pair of boots and you're good to go.

This purple sweater dress may seem strictly eighties,
but worn with a slim woven belt and beautiful wooden heels, it's completely modern.
Dress: $18
Belt: $14
Shoes: $36

A mock turtleneck sweater dress gets a sexy update with a slim silhouette and thigh-grazing hemline.
Pair it with combat boots and a tough belt and no one will ever think it came from your grandmother.
Dress: $18
Belt: $14

This gem is made for the winter blues; an attached faux jacket makes this look put together with the simplicity of a dress. Also, it's made of quilted cotton to add extra warmth. The shoes, in two tone leather with perforated detailing, complement the color scheme but would also brighten up an otherwise drab outfit.
Dress: $34
Shoes: $16
