Scarves are a great way to keep your ears warm in the cold and add a nice pop of color to any outfit. The wrapping technique may change according to the size and shape of the scarf,

but here are five ways they can be tied.

'Tis the season for holiday parties, and whether you're attending a work function, family dinner, or black tie affair, this is the perfect excuse to treat yourself to a new frock. We have dresses for any occasion in a variety of cuts, colors, and fine fabrics.

On the left, a satin brocade mini dress in bright lipstick red is eyecatching to start, plus the attached brooch and keyhole cutout add some extra oomph ($24) .On the right, in a flattering berry red, is a satin dress with a ladylike hemline, draped bodice, and bows at the shoulders ($38).

At the left is a gorgeous floor length emerald gown, with a full skirt supported by layers of tulle. The boned strapless bodice has lovely bows, and best of all, it has pockets ($38). At right, a black velvet dress gets sparkly with green sequins on a black embroidered appliqued bodice ($32).

Here are two black strapless dresses, each with a very different spin. On the left, a modest tea length hem and a sophisticated lace overlay keep it classy ($24). On the right, a short number with lace sequin bodice and satin skirt keeps it sassy. It does have a large sequin rosette at the waist which I would recommend removing as soon as possible ($28).

On the left is a LBD that could definitely be put in year-round rotation. The full skirt adds curves to the straightest figure, and a row of matching satin buttons up the spine adds back detail ($28). On the right is a deep forest green dress in sumptous velvet, with ruching throughout the bodice down to a dropped waist and asymmetrical full skirt ($28).

Give yourself a little lift with kitten-heeled ankle boots,

slingbacks, and pumps.

So simple yet so sexy, the cat-eye is always a beauty "do".

You can achieve this look with a dramatic liquid liner in just a few simple steps.

1.  Choose a black liquid liner with an easy to apply felt tipped marker. My personal favorite is Maybelline's Lash Stilletto Liquid Liner.

2.  Gently hold the skin over the outer corner of your eye taut. Starting in the inner corner of your eye, draw a thin line as close to the base of your lashes as possible.

3. When you reach the outer corner of your eye, continue the line slightly upward. Let the liner dry. Add a second coat if desired.

4. Finish this look by coating your lashes with two coats of black mascara.

Vintage Clothing Tags

As far back as I can remember I have always been fascinated by vintage clothing tags. The vibrant colors, odd subject matter and fine details that are sewn into tags about 1"x 1" in size with incredibly tiny stitches, totally blows my mind. On a daily basis I search out clothing from the 1930's through the 1980's, and without fail I check the tag. More often then not, I like the design of the tag more then the design of the garment!

Seeing all of these amazing little creations made me want to learn more about the maker and the history behind the designer. To find this information I went to an amazing website called Vintage Fashion Guild. Here you will find everything that you need to know about vintage clothing. From trends & genres to featured designers, this site has it all. This is where I found some info on some of my favorite vintage tags that are currently on the racks at Retrospect.

Here is some of the information on Goldworm I found in the

label resource tab.

In 1928, the Goldworm Knitwear Company was founded in New York by Mrs. Gertrude Goldworm. This family-run business influenced the entire knitwear industry. Her son, Robert, having graduated from New York University in 1947, joined the company and was soon recognized as a talented knitwear designer himself.

Shortly after, Robert traveled to Italy in search of quality hand finishing – buttonholes hand done, seams looped. It is there where he joined forces with a small knitwear business owned and operated by the Dragone family. This merger allowed Goldworm to translate American fashions, but with traditional Italian craftsmanship.

Soon Robert’s sister, Beverly Tuttman, joined the company as head designer and helped turn classic knitwear into high fashion. The Goldworm knit company has received many honors, including the Coty Award and the Editorial Fashion Award by Glamour Magazine. In 1968, Goldworm became the first American to receive the Premio Mercurio D’oro, Italy’s highest award for commercial and economic achievement.

The font used in the first tag is so elegant.

Vested Gentress was established in 1961 and was based in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Their factory was located in Trappe, Pennsylvania, about twelve miles from Valley Forge. The company was known for whimsical screenprinted fabrics. These fabrics were made into dresses, slacks, and skirts. They also had a line of golf wear. The company closed in the late 1980s.

Dating hint: In the earlier labels, the lady does not have the crop in her hand.

Look at those vibrant colors on the Pegasus tag! That was attached to a pair of dark denim high waisted jeans from the 1970's!

So 70's, check out the little flowers in her hair. What a great detail.

And last but not least, my two favorite tags in the entire store. These designs couldn't get any better, they are tiny pieces of art, so wonderfully designed.

Another feature on VFG is that there are pics of other tags created by the designers in the label section. Learn about the history of the garment maker and check out some really rad sewing skills as well as graphics and illustration.

Here are a few tips that will turn your search for seventies essentials into a success!

1. Gotta Love Google

Before you shop, have an idea of what you are looking for. If you are unfamiliar with the era, you might leave with a look that doesn't resemble the decade you are shooting for.

2. The two P's
Seventies fashion is all about pattern and polyester. Whether floral, geometric, or paisley, men of the seventies didn't shy away from bold and eccentric patterns. Have fun with your pattern pick and choose something outlandish! Polyester fabric was a staple of the seventies. It's easy to determine polyester fabric in shirts because polyester shirts tend to have a particular sheen to them. Polyester pants tend to feel thicker than the usual cotton blend trouser. If you still aren't sure just check out the fabric label and the content will be listed.
3. Use Basics as a Base
While the seventies male wore some pretty wacky prints, no guy paraded around in houndstooth pants, a paisley button down, topped off with a polka dotted tie. If you choose a patterned top, pair it with a solid color polyester pant that compliments the colors in the pattern of your shirt. If you choose a patterned pant, choose a solid top in the same way.
